eSIM for Thailand: which Airalo package to buy

Thailand is far outside the EU, and roaming there on a European plan is usually expensive. An Airalo eSIM for Thailand runs on the True and AIS 5G networks. Here are the current packages and what they cost with the €3 code for your first eSIM.

“Unlimited” has a daily limit

Unlimited packages run at full speed up to 5 GB a day, then slow to 1 Mbps until the next day. That still covers maps and messaging, but not streaming or a laptop on hotspot. The eSIM covers the mainland and the islands, including Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi and Phi Phi.

Which package to choose

A weekend: 1 GB for 3 days is enough for maps, messaging and the odd search.

A week: with maps, messaging and some social media most people use roughly 0.5–1 GB a day, so 5 GB covers a typical week. If you run out, you top up in the Airalo app.

Lots of photos, video or a hotspot: take an unlimited package, keeping the daily full-speed limit above in mind.

Install before you leave: the validity starts only when the eSIM first connects to a network in Thailand, so you can install it at home over Wi-Fi. Keep your main SIM switched on to stay reachable on your own number – at your operator’s roaming rates.

Longer trips: data in Thailand is cheap – a 30-day package is only a little more expensive than a 15-day one, so for longer stays take the longer validity.
