Daily energy use is our own arithmetic. Starlink changes prices and rules often – the order form and support pages show the current terms.

What a season costs

Example: you tour from May to September, five months. With Roam 100GB that’s 5 × £55 = £275; for the rest of the year you can put the plan on Standby for a small monthly fee shown in the app. In the first year add the Mini Kit and shipping, £198 together. For a longer trip you can switch to Unlimited in your account and back again – billing is monthly. Starlink says 100GB is about a week of typical use; for working from the van all day and streaming, Unlimited is the safer choice.

What matters in a motorhome or caravan

Roam, not Residential. Residential (£32–40 a month in the UK, depending on the address) is tied to one service address and isn’t meant for use on the move, so it doesn’t suit a van or a touring caravan. Roam works wherever you park, and you buy the dish: the Starlink Mini Kit costs £179, £198 due today with shipping. On a static caravan that never moves, Residential at that address can be the cheaper choice – compare in the Starlink UK guide.

Travelling in Europe. For Roam, Europe is one region – the UK, the EU countries, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland – and travel inside it doesn’t count as international, so even Roam 100GB has no time limit on a trip to France or Spain. Outside the region only Roam Unlimited works, for up to 30 days at a time and only where Starlink is licensed. Starlink may ask for a travel registration with a passport or ID when you use it outside your home country (Starlink support).

On the move. Starlink support says Roam can be used in motion at up to 160 km/h where it’s permitted; in Spain, in-motion use on land is not allowed. Fixing the dish to the roof matters here: the British order form offered a Roof Rack Mount for £30 and a Mobility Mount for £25. Standby mode doesn’t work while driving (Starlink support).

Power from the leisure battery. The Mini uses 25–40 W on average and takes 12–48 V DC (60 W at most), so it can run straight from a 12 V leisure battery through a DC cable – the British order form sold a Car Adapter for £52. Over USB-C it needs a charger of at least 100 W (20 V / 5 A) and Starlink’s cable. Eight hours a day is about 0.2–0.3 kWh (our arithmetic). The Router Mini is an optional £55 if you want WiFi further than the Mini’s own.

In any weather. The Mini is rated IP67, works from −30 to 50 °C and in winds over 96 km/h, and melts up to 25 mm of snow an hour.

Frequently asked questions

Which Starlink plan is best for a motorhome or caravan?

Roam with the Starlink Mini. In the UK Roam 100GB costs £55 a month and Roam Unlimited £100; the Mini Kit costs £179 plus £19 shipping (starlink.com order form, 25 October 2026). Residential doesn’t suit a vehicle – it’s tied to one address and not meant for use on the move.

Does Starlink work in a motorhome across Europe?

Yes. For Roam, Europe is one region – the UK, the EU, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland – with no time limit. Outside it, for example in Montenegro, Albania or Turkey, only Roam Unlimited works, for up to 30 days at a time.

Can I use Starlink while driving?

With Roam, yes – at up to 160 km/h where Starlink allows in-motion use. In Spain it isn’t allowed on land. Mount the dish properly: the British order form offered a Roof Rack Mount (£30) and a Mobility Mount (£25).

How do I power Starlink in a caravan or motorhome?

The Mini takes 12–48 V DC, so it runs from the 12 V leisure battery through a DC cable (Starlink’s Car Adapter costs £52), or from a USB-C charger of at least 100 W (20 V / 5 A) with Starlink’s cable. It uses 25–40 W on average and 60 W at most.

Can I pause Starlink over winter?

Yes. You can put Roam on Standby in your account for a small monthly fee and keep unlimited low-speed data for messages; restarting takes a few clicks. Standby isn’t meant for use while driving.

How do I get the £40 referral reward?

Order Roam on starlink.com through the link on this page. The checkout confirms “Referral code applied” with £40; the reward arrives as cash or service credit about 60 days after activation if you stay subscribed for at least two months. New customers only.
