Starlink for a campervan: which plan, which dish, travelling across Europe
Starlink on the roof of a campervan or motorhome, or on its kickstand next to a caravan, brings internet to places mobile data doesn’t reach. On the road you need the Roam plan and a Mini X dish that you buy. Prices below come from the starlink.com Roam order forms we checked country by country between 15 October and 1 November 2026, and the travel rules from Starlink’s help pages.

The Irish starlink.com checkout on 11 October 2026 with our referral link: “Referral code applied – you’ll get €45, cash or Starlink service credit.” Germany, France, Italy and Spain showed €45 too.
How to get the reward
Click the link above – starlink.com opens with the referral applied
Order a Residential or Roam plan – the checkout shows “Referral code applied” with the amount for your country
Activate your kit and stay subscribed for at least 2 months – then the reward is yours as cash or service credit
When do I get the reward? Starlink says rewards go out from about 60 days after activation – the exact timing depends on your country, account settings and an identity check. You need to stay subscribed for at least two months. In your Starlink account you choose whether you want the reward as cash or as service credit, and Starlink sends an email once it’s confirmed.

Daily energy use is our own calculation. Starlink changes prices and rules often – the order form for the country you live in shows the current offer.
What a season costs
Example for Germany: you tour from May to September, so 5 months. With Roam 100 GB you pay 5 × €45 = €225, with Unlimited 5 × €95 = €475. For the rest of the year the plan sits in Standby Mode for a small monthly fee – Starlink doesn’t publish it on its website, the app shows it before you confirm. In the first year add the Mini X and shipping, €218 together. You can switch between 100 GB and Unlimited in your account from month to month, for example Unlimited for a long trip or a stay outside Europe. Starlink says 100 GB lasts about a week of normal use; data beyond it continues at low speed. If you work from the van all day or stream every evening, Unlimited is the safer choice.
What matters in a campervan
Roam, not Residential. Residential is cheaper per month, but it is tied to the one address on the order and never works in motion – not even with a Mini dish. A campervan, motorhome or touring caravan needs Roam, which works wherever you park. Only for a static caravan that never moves can Residential at that address make sense – see the holiday home guide.
Mini X rather than Standard. The Roam order forms we checked shipped the Mini X (the Mini Kit in Ireland and the UK). It suits a van: the dish is 298.5 × 259 × 38.5 mm and weighs 1.10 kg, has WiFi built in, draws 25–40 W on average and takes 12–48 V DC (60 W at most), so it runs straight from the 12 V leisure battery through a DC cable. Over USB-C it needs a charger of at least 100 W (20 V / 5 A) and Starlink’s cable. The Standard is 594 × 383 × 39.7 mm, 2.9 kg, draws 75–100 W and runs from a 100–240 V mains power supply, so in a van it needs an inverter. Eight hours a day is about 0.2–0.3 kWh for the Mini X (our calculation). The Router Mini is an optional extra, around €60–65, if you want WiFi further than the dish’s own (Standard vs Mini).
Travelling in Europe. For Roam, Europe is one region – the EU countries plus the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and a few territories. If your account is registered in one of them, travel inside the region doesn’t count as international, so even Roam 100 GB has no time limit on a trip from Lisbon to the North Cape. Outside the region – Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Serbia, Turkey or Morocco – only Roam Unlimited works, for up to 30 days at a time and only where Starlink is licensed. Starlink may ask for a travel registration with a passport or ID when you use it outside your home country, and your home country should be where you live, not where Roam is cheapest (Starlink help).
While driving. According to Starlink help, all Roam plans can be used in motion at up to 160 km/h in authorised locations, and on inland waterways and up to 12 nautical miles from shore. Spain prohibits in-motion use on land. Starlink’s list of hardware supported in motion names Starlink Mini, Standard 4 and Performance; the Mini X isn’t named there explicitly, so if you mainly need internet while driving, ask Starlink support first (Starlink help). Standby Mode doesn’t work in motion.
Mounting and a clear sky. The dish needs an open view of the sky: trees, buildings, a cliff face or a high roof box next to it can interrupt the connection, so park with the dish away from them. Parked, the kickstand on the ground or the roof is enough; for use while driving, fix the dish to the roof with a proper mount – the UK order form offered a Roof Rack Mount (£30) and a Mobility Mount (£25). The Mini X is rated IP67, works from −30 to 50 °C and in winds over 96 km/h, and melts up to 25 mm of snow an hour.
Between trips: Standby Mode. Instead of paying full months you don’t use, put Roam in Standby Mode in your account for a small monthly fee; you keep unlimited low-speed data up to 500 kbps for messages and easy reactivation, and resuming takes a few clicks (Starlink help). In Hungary the order form of 29 October 2026 offered a free pause with no data instead of Standby.
Frequently asked questions
Which Starlink plan is best for a campervan or motorhome?
Roam with the Mini X dish. In most euro countries Roam 100 GB costs €45 a month and Roam Unlimited €95; you buy the Mini X for €199 plus shipping (starlink.com order forms, October–November 2026). Residential doesn’t suit a vehicle – it is tied to one address and never works in motion.
Does Starlink work in a campervan across Europe?
Yes. For Roam, Europe is one region – the EU countries, the UK, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland – and travel inside it has no time limit, even on Roam 100 GB. Outside it, for example in Montenegro, Albania or Turkey, only Roam Unlimited works, for up to 30 days at a time.
Can I use Starlink while driving?
With Roam, yes – at up to 160 km/h where Starlink allows in-motion use. Spain prohibits it on land. Starlink’s hardware list for in-motion use doesn’t name the Mini X explicitly yet, so ask support before a trip if you need internet mainly on the move.
How do I power Starlink in a campervan?
The Mini X takes 12–48 V DC, so it runs from the 12 V leisure battery through a DC cable, or from a USB-C charger of at least 100 W (20 V / 5 A) with Starlink’s cable. It draws 25–40 W on average and 60 W at most – about 0.2–0.3 kWh for eight hours a day. The Standard needs 75–100 W from a mains power supply.
Can I pause Starlink between trips?
Yes. Put Roam in Standby Mode in your account for a small monthly fee and keep unlimited low-speed data up to 500 kbps; resuming takes a few clicks. Standby isn’t meant for use while driving.
How do I get the referral reward?
Order Roam on starlink.com through the link on our Starlink page. The checkout confirms the referral; the reward – €45 in the euro area, £40 in the UK, Kč 1,000 in Czechia, zł 190 in Poland and the amounts in our Roam table elsewhere – comes as cash or service credit about 60 days after activation once you have been a customer for at least two months. New customers only.
New customers who order on starlink.com through our referral link get €45 as cash or service credit after two months of subscription (zł 190 in Poland, Kč 1,000 in Czechia).
