Renting Starlink in Europe: what the rented kit costs and when to buy instead

In most of Europe you don’t have to buy Starlink: with a Residential plan, Starlink rents you the dish and router. Here is what that costs in 27 countries, how long you are tied in, when the kit goes back – and why the rented kit isn’t made for a campervan or a holiday. Prices come from the starlink.com order forms we checked between 24 October and 1 November 2026; each country shows its own date.

In short

Kit rental
€0 upfront and €0 a month with Residential – in every country we checked except Bulgaria, where you buy the kit
Plan
Residential 100 Mbps from €35 a month in most euro countries; €28–31.50 by address in France, Italy, Spain and Greece since 1 November 2026; €29 in Austria, Belgium and Croatia
Contract
none in the order forms we checked – cancel any time, 30 days with a full refund
When you cancel
send the kit back to Starlink within 30 days
For travel
no rental – buy a Mini X for €199 plus shipping and pay Roam from €45 a month (€40 in a few countries)

€45 from Starlink

Starlink checkout: Referral code applied, you’ll get €45 – cash or Starlink service credit
The Irish starlink.com checkout on 11 October 2026 with our referral link: “Referral code applied – you’ll get €45, cash or Starlink service credit.” Germany, France, Italy and Spain showed €45 too.

How to get the reward

  1. Click the link above – starlink.com opens with the referral applied
  2. Order a Residential or Roam plan – the checkout shows “Referral code applied” with the amount for your country
  3. Activate your kit and stay subscribed for at least 2 months – then the reward is yours as cash or service credit

When do I get the reward? Starlink says rewards go out from about 60 days after activation – the exact timing depends on your country, account settings and an identity check. You need to stay subscribed for at least two months. In your Starlink account you choose whether you want the reward as cash or as service credit, and Starlink sends an email once it’s confirmed.

Sources: starlink.com Residential order forms for each country on the date in the table – rechecked for 24 countries on 1 November 2026, when Starlink began pricing Residential by address in France, Italy, Spain, Greece and the United Kingdom (see Starlink dynamic pricing); Austria, Belgium and Switzerland checked on 24 October 2026; Starlink’s contract summary for Germany (27 October 2026); Roam order forms for the Mini X; Starlink support on returning the kit and on pausing service. “At checkout” is the amount the order form asked for when ordering (mostly shipping); for Poland we didn’t note it. We haven’t checked Residential in the Netherlands or Luxembourg. Starlink changes prices often – the hardware line in your cart is what counts.

What happens to the rented kit when you cancel?

The kit stays Starlink’s property. When you cancel, you tick in your account that you want to return the hardware and get a prepaid return label by email. According to Starlink support, the kit has to be back within 30 days of cancelling, or you are charged the full kit price – so keep the box.

When renting makes sense

At home or all year at a second home: rent. With Residential you pay nothing for the dish and router, neither upfront nor monthly. Buying brings no advantage here: as long as you pay the plan, the kit is free, and when you stop you don’t have old hardware to sell. Where the order form names the rented kit, Residential 100 Mbps ships the Mini X (in Ireland and the UK the Mini) and the faster plans the Standard 4. All monthly prices, faster plans and installation are in the Starlink price guide for Europe.

Campervan, camping, boat: no rental. Residential is for one address and never works on the move – even when the rented dish is a Mini X. Travel needs a Roam plan, and Roam only comes with a kit you buy: the Mini X for €199 plus €19–24 shipping in most euro countries, Roam 100 GB €45 a month (€40 in Belgium and Bulgaria, 50 GB for €40 in Austria and Croatia), checked in the order forms up to 1 November 2026. Prices for 28 countries are in Starlink Roam in Europe, the rules on the road in the campervan guide.

Only for a few weeks: Starlink doesn’t rent by the week. At a fixed address – a building site, a holiday flat, a gap until fibre arrives – you can order Residential and cancel after the first month. In Germany that is €19 at checkout plus €35 for the month, then the kit goes back. Allow 2–3 weeks for delivery.

A holiday home used only in season: rather buy. According to Starlink’s help page, Residential can be paused in Standby Mode – except promotional offers and certain kit rentals – and users report that the app offers Standby only for bought kits. With a rented kit you can only keep paying or cancel and send it back. Roam with your own Mini X pauses off-season; the yearly cost is worked out in the holiday home guide.

Bulgaria is the exception. Its order form on 25 October 2026 had no rental: you buy the kit (Starlink Mini €199, Standard €347) and keep it, with Residential Lite from €33 a month. The same owned dish also works with Roam.

Prices by address. Since 1 November 2026 Starlink prices Residential by address in France, Italy, Spain, Greece and the United Kingdom – up to 20% below the October price where the network has spare capacity: €28 in Lyon or Teruel, €31.50 in Paris, Rome or Madrid, £32 in Hexham and £40 in London. Enter your own address in the order form to see yours.

Frequently asked questions

Can you rent Starlink in Europe?

Yes. With a Residential plan Starlink rents the dish and router for €0 upfront and €0 a month in 26 of the 27 European countries we checked between 24 October and 1 November 2026. You only pay the plan and what the order form asks at checkout (mostly shipping, e.g. €19 in Germany). Bulgaria is the exception: there you buy the kit.

How much does renting Starlink cost a month?

Only the plan: Residential 100 Mbps is €35 in Germany, Finland, Ireland, Portugal, Slovakia and the Baltics, €29 in Austria, Belgium and Croatia, €31.50 in Italy and €28–31.50 depending on the address in France, Spain and Greece. Outside the euro: Kč 745 in Czechia, zł 135 in Poland, kr 370 in Sweden and Norway, CHF 35 in Switzerland, £32–40 in the UK. No kit fee is added.

Is there a minimum contract?

Not in the order forms we checked: Residential runs month to month and you can cancel any time in your account, with 30 days to try it for a full refund. Starlink’s contract summary for Germany also describes a 12-month commitment, but the Berlin order form didn’t offer it on 27 October 2026.

Can I rent the Starlink Mini?

Only with Residential 100 Mbps, where many countries ship the rented Mini X – but only for your address and never on the move. For camping, a campervan or a boat you need Roam, and for that you buy the Mini X: €199 plus shipping on starlink.com in most euro countries.

Isn’t there a monthly rental fee?

In June 2026 news reports mentioned a €10 monthly kit fee for new customers in Germany, and the Czech order form showed Kč 210 a month from June until October. In the order forms we checked between 24 October and 1 November 2026 the rented kit cost €0 upfront and €0 a month. Starlink changes this – check the hardware line in your cart before ordering.

Is there a referral reward when renting?

Yes. Order Residential on starlink.com through the link on our Starlink page – it is our referral link. The checkout confirms the referral; the reward – €45 in the euro area, £40 in the UK, Kč 1,000 in Czechia, zł 190 in Poland and the amounts in our Europe price table elsewhere – comes as cash or service credit once you have been a customer for at least two months. New customers only; it doesn’t change your price.
